(ABC 6 News) – A Democratic newcomer is announcing his candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives.
On Wednesday, January 7th, Alexander Schmidt announced his candidacy for Iowa House District 60.
Schmidt, a 32-year-old native of Mitchell County, is running for the Democratic nomination. In a release announcing his candidacy, he said he’s running because he’s “tired of younger, progressive Iowans like myself being shut out of the conversations about Iowa’s future.”
Schmidt has worked as a journalist for multiple news agencies, including ABC 6 News in Rochester, Minnesota.
Iowa House District 60 covers Mitchell and Worth Counties, as well as parts of Cerro Gordo and Floyd Counties. The seat is currently held by Republican Representative Jane Bloomingdale. She has held the seat since being elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2016.
The primary election is being held on June 2nd, with the general election on November 3rd.
